Verity

Privacy Policy

This page is maintained by the Verity team to explain what data Verity stores and how it is used. It is not legal advice or an independent certification.

What we collect

  • Account: email, and if you sign in with Google, the basic profile fields Google returns.
  • Profile: username, display name, bio, avatar image.
  • Phone number (optional): stored so friends who have your number can find you.
  • Reviews you write: rating, short verdict, detailed text, spoiler flag.
  • Friend graph: who you've sent, accepted, or declined friend requests with.
  • Items you add manually (restaurants, travel destinations, games, etc.).

How friend discovery via contacts works

Contact matching is privacy-first. Your phone contacts are hashed on your device with SHA-256 and a per-user salt before being sent. Verity never receives raw phone numbers from your address book. You can clear your uploaded hashes at any time from the Friends page.

Who can see what

  • Your profile (username, display name, bio, avatar) is visible to any signed-in Verity user.
  • Your reviews are visible only to you and to friends who have accepted your friend request.
  • Your phone number and hashing salt are visible only to you.
  • Verity staff can access data as needed to operate and troubleshoot the service.

Third parties

Verity uses TMDB to look up movie metadata, Supabase for database and authentication, and Google as an optional sign-in provider. See Attributions for details.

Retention and deletion

You can edit or delete your reviews, remove your phone number, and clear your uploaded contact hashes at any time from within the app. To delete your entire account, email hello@verity.app.
